The Franklin High School Band, NC
FHS Concert Band:
The concert band is comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomores. These students focus on Grade III/IV contest repertoire based on the North Carolina Concert Band Contest list. The students work diligently on basic tonality, technique, rudimentary studies, major scale passages, and ensemble rehearsal fundamentals that prepare them for the symphonic band. The concert band prepares contest music materials, as well as contemporary and popular charts for the spring concert in order to provide a vast majority of music for their audience at the conclusion of the school year. Students can also audition for All-District and All-State band in their particular classification. At random times, the band may participate in other activities such as "Superband," area mass concert band adjudication concerts, etc.
FHS Symphonic Band:
The symphonic band is comprised of mostly juniors and seniors. These students focus on Grade IV - VI contest repertoire based on the North Carolina Concert Band Contest list. The students work on more advanced techniques, fundamentals, and studies to prepare for the NC State Contest Festival each spring. After state contest, the band prepares more contest music (IV-VI), as well as added contemporary pop charts that the students may select and "narrow down" for a Spring
This is generally known as the "Senior Dedication" show, as it is the final performance the seniors will participate in as a FHS Band member. At certain times, the seniors may sometimes work to direct these pieces, and some seniors even write/arrange music for the ensemble to perform at this concert. At random times, the ensemble may also participate in other activities such as "Superband," area mass concert band adjudication concerts, etc.
